Dr. Bell is originally from Tokyo, Japan where she received her Ph.D. in Earth Science with a concentration in biology from the University of Tokyo. She has a broad interest in biology. Some of her interests are; extremophiles (organisms thriving in extreme environments) on Earth and their application for medical research, and search for possible life on other planets. Her approach to biomedicine is to understand the human health as part of Earth and the Universe system. She loves helping others and assisting her students to make their dreams come true. Also, she is leading the movement called “Open Science” that connects the public to science and makes science as inclusive and diverse as possible. She served as a subject matter expert for NASA open science curriculum development. Her passion is empowering everybody through the excitement of science!

Outside classroom and lab, Dr. Bell deeply loves cooking and working out. When she is not thinking about science, she is usually thinking about food. Also, she enjoys joining science expeditions to go underwater and underground for biological sampling.
