Hello! My name is Kendy Reyes Cruz. I am a graduate student pursuing a Masters in Biomedical Science. Born and raised in Bayamón, Puerto Rico and lived in Puerto Rico until I decided to start my college journey in 2019. I attended Illinois State University from where I obtained a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Spanish. I am a Registered Medical Assistant, phlebotomy technician and EKG technician. I currently work as a Registered Medical Assistant at an urgent care clinic. I have experience in urgent care, family medicine and pediatrics, where I have seen the high demand in primary care physicians that are really invested in being advocates for their patients and doing right by them, specially in the hispanic and underserved communities. Many people fear going to get care due to often feeling judged or unheard by their providers or due to language barriers and that has made me realized that I can be part of the change. I can be that physician that guides their patients with kindness and compassion through difficult health related news. I can be an advocate when insurance doesn’t want to accept a life saving procedure. I can make an impact in someone else’s life when they feel like no one is understanding what they are going through. I can be part of the next generation of hispanic female physicians. My goal is to become a family medicine Doctor and care for my patients as if I were caring for a loved one. During my free time, I enjoy baking, spending time with my husband and our baby, our cocker spaniel Lilly. On Sundays I enjoy going to church and playing a round of golf with my husband.
