Hello, my name is Jayson Palacios, I’m 38 years old, from California and went back to college at 33 years old. Since I was in elementary school, I have had an interest in life sciences, but it wasn’t until high school that I realized Biology was the direction I wanted to go in. I have been attending Newman University since Fall 2020. I am currently a graduate student studying Bio Medical Science at Newman University. Microbiology is my concentration, learning about different microbes and their functions/processes for sustaining life is what interests me.

Microbiology is a part of all aspects of life and is something we all live with. My career goals are to come up with alternative ways for problem solving and to possibly become a professor. Working as a microbiologist I would like to travel to different regions to understand how microbial life sustains itself and what could be taken away from it to apply in another region or help someone. My current interest is phototherapy and how light affects our microbiome.

To occupy my free time, I like to go bowling, build small engines, and spend time with family and friends. I’m an alumni athlete for the Newman University bowling program. Bowling has been part of my life for as long as I can remember and am a competitive bowler. For nearly 20 years I built high performance small engines for people and racing teams all over the world reaching every continent. My family and friends are an important aspect to my life because they are people I care about and where I come from.
