Hi everyone! My name is Isabel, and I am a current graduate student here at Newman in the Biomedical Sciences program. I graduated from Wichita State with my BS in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry in 2022. I have a passion for scientific research and worked as a research assistant at WSU for 2 ½ years. I conducted my own research in my lab under Dr. Heidi Ravenhorst-Bell in orofacial myology. I was fortunate enough to have been accepted to a national conference called ASHA in November of 2022, where my team and I brought our research and presented it to other clinicians, SLP’s, and more. It was my time in the lab during undergrad that really sparked my passion for research.
I have also worked as a clinical research coordinator for the last 2.5 years. I plan to pursue either an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD program after I graduate with my master’s degree. I love getting to interact with patients daily and providing innovative care through clinical trials, but also would like to be able to have my own lab and conduct my own research! In my free time I like to read, lift weights, run, and spend time with my puppy, Bruno! He is a 12-week-old golden retriever and possibly the fluffiest thing you’ll ever see. I am very excited and grateful to be a part of the first class of Newman’s M.S. program and look forward to connecting with other students and alumni.
